Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I am officially in my new house, as of this past Friday. I am still in the process of moving everything over from the old house, and cleaning the old house, but all of my furniture is now here, as are the cats. [info]phaballa reclaimed Max on Sunday, so it is just me and the seven cats here. They (other than Rasputin and Wilbur) were skittish at first, but everyone has settled down now. This place really feels like home already.

I owe great thanks to Sarah, my girlfriend, for helping me a lot with the move this weekend. She herself just recently moved to Austin and has had her share of moving drama and stress, but she was happy to help me with my move. I guess I haven't mentioned Sarah in here yet, which I know is shocking given how frequently I update my journal. Those of you who see me regularly will no doubt meet her before too long.

The new house is an older house (built in 1952), and I've needed to do some repair work on it. I've already had most of the house rewired by an electrician, and I am likely going to need to have it repiped by a plumber as well. The seller gave me some money for repairs, but the cost for all of this has already exceeded what he gave me. However, I am still happy with the purchase. I was aware that these repairs would be needed based on the inspection. I really like the house, and spending money on the house doesn't bother me so much, since it will be increasing its value. And it's still such a novelty to actually own the place that I live.

Also, Sarah Palin is a nut.

umm like 12 more hours
i'm down here with my mom - super last minute trip to visit my brother, who is going through a really miserable breakup. he's an unhappy boy, so we drove down for two days to make sure he was taking care of himself and to distract him for awhile. i thought it'd be a lame move to make plans with other people, which is why i didn't mention it in advance - BUT he's still down here working on his phd which is to say that i'll surely be visiting him again at some point, maybe this winter.

I suppose I will accept your excuse. And sadly I am supposed to play World of Warcraft with my brother at 9:30pm. But I guess you are probably hanging out with your brother anyway. You had better come back! And let me know ahead of time!

!!!!!

it's comforting to know that you and your brother are still doing totally dorky shit. as the world falls apart around us, that is something i can count on.

when i was wondering if i should get in touch (while we were driving down here) i realized that i have absolutely no memory of how i know you.

I know we met while I was in college, and I am sure I somehow randomly found you online, but Christ only knows how. Or maybe we met in the pen.

You should help me play Warcraft to satisfy your inner dork! You can hear Matt talk on voice chat!

that's all i remember, too. except i was in high school. and... yeah. i think phil ackley may have been involved but i have even less a sense of how i would have known him. what a world.

you should update your website!

i want nothing to do with warcraft! it makes bad things happen to people! bad people and good people!

Yeah, I also met Phil under similar circumstances. Actually, scratch that. I know how I met him. I helped form a play-by-e-mail game called Ackanomic, and he signed up for it, and I met him that way. No clue how I met you, though. Makes things more interesting.

Don't worry, I got my MMO addiction out of my system with Everquest. I really only play WoW once or twice a week, mainly to hang out with friends. Not to say I am ashamed of being a dork, because I am not!

Silver Jews are in town this Friday. Sarah and I may be going to see them. Clearly you are leaving town too early.

What e-mail address do you check? E-mail me! mitcharf@tmbg.org

The wife of one of my friends who plays calls these World of warcraft appointments "Playdates".

Congrats! Good luck with the repairs -- I'm about to have a nice big chunk of pipe replaced (the toilet drain pipe) and it's going to cost a fortune.
